I love trying local and family-owned restaurants that promote fresh, healthy, and locally-grown produce. It’s more difficult to find these sorts of places when you live east of Pasadena, but today I discovered one in San Dimas (Twisted Sage Cafe & Catering, San Dimas, CA). The owner told me they are now three years old.
I wanted to treat my friend to a birthday breakfast, but I wanted to try something different. I yelped restaurants in San Dimas (where she lives), and I found this place. We agreed to meet there at 8:15am. I figured, if this was a popular place, the earlier the better on a Sunday. We arrived at the perfect time, and it was very laid back. You order your food, and they bring it to your table. Meanwhile, you have your coffee mugs, and you help yourself to endless cups of “Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf” teas and coffee.
I ordered the veggie wrap (pictured), and it was superb:
Cucumber, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, radish, avocado, mixed greens, balsamic vinaigrette wrapped in a spinach tortilla. I ordered extra avocado on mine. And as a side, I chose greens (there were pasta salads, soups, etc., but they weren’t vegan). $7.95 was the total for the wrap and the side.
My friend ordered an omelette with potatoes on the side; she was very pleased with the freshness and quality, too.
It’s definitely a place I’d revisit! (They’re only open for breakfast and lunch…they close at 3pm.)
